Astragalus as an Immune Catalyst
Two separate cases of young women, training hard, who would pick up every bug going around, who attribute their recovery and continued wellness to a very short course of herbs that “turned their immune systems back on”.
Case Study 1:
Woman 34 years, poor immunity, recurrent infection, history of boils, abscesses and skin infections.
For several months has had mucus in throat and chest that will not shift, all tests are clear, but “glands come up” frequently.
Working mother of pre-schooler, training hard for upcoming event, on Citalopram for depression, prone to anxiety.
Rx:
Withania 40%
Astragalus 30%
Thyme 20%
Liquorice 10%
Poke Root 1%
Mitte 202ml, 8ml BD

5 weeks later:
Taking tonic has made a “huge difference”, glands aren't coming up anymore, and she hasn't been sick at all. Phlegm is heaps better, not as ‘mucusy’, and tonic clears it quickly. Repeat 200ml.

Woman 26 years, recurrent infection, training hard, history of eating disorders and major physical trauma from injuries in car accidents. Illness usually twice a month, respiratory or gastrointestinal. Multiple allergies. Eczema and acne.

Echinacea Root Blend 15%
Burdock 10%
Ginger 5%

8 months later: Client reports she has been “great all winter”, with only one gastro bug the entire time. Has come back because she has just had a flu for 2 weeks, and wants another immune tonic, because it gave her “such a boost” last time.
Obviously it would be more ideal for her to have stayed on the tonic for longer, but it is quite remarkable sometimes what a little bit can do.
